You’ve probably heard of palm reading. You may have even heard about phrenology, which is all to do with reading the planes of the face to gain insight into character…apparently!

However, chances are that you’ve never heard about the fine art of identifying character traits by teeth. Sounds ridiculous? Believe it or not, it’s actually entirely possible to tell a lot about a person by the condition of their pearly whites.

What do Your Teeth Reveal About You?

Curious to know what your teeth say about you? Read on!

  1. Canine characteristics. Your canine teeth (those sharper teeth near the front) apparently provide a lot of insight into how forceful a person you are. Sharper, more prominent canines indicate a powerful, sometimes aggressive personality; whereas shorter canines with flattened tips tend to suggest a more passive individual.
  2. Feminine or masculine? Your lateral incisors (the teeth either side of your two front teeth) indicate a feminine or masculine personality. Feminine personalities tend to have shorter, more rounded lateral incisors. Masculine personalities, on the other hand, are represented by longer, squarer teeth.
  3. The key signs of a stressful lifestyle. Your teeth also reveal a lot about your lifestyle choices. Teeth that are worn down are a sure sign of teeth-grinding; which in turn, is a distinct indication of stress. If your dentist tells you that your teeth are worn, it may be time to reassess the levels of stress and anxiety in your current lifestyle.
  4. A ‘party-animal’ personality. If you’re a little bit too over-fond of socialising and partying with friends, this can take its toll on your teeth. Smoking and excessive consumption of alcohol can leave teeth unpleasantly stained; a classic tell-tale sign of the party animal!

On a More Serious Note…

Whilst it’s great fun to analyse personality traits by looking at teeth, there’s actually a serious side when it comes to examining them. Many of the traits that reveal much about your character and lifestyle can also reveal problems in terms of the health and general appearance of your teeth.

For example, drinking large amounts of coffee, wine or beer can cause halitosis (bad breath), discoloration of the teeth, and in rare cases, serious health problems, such as gum disease and mouth cancer. Chronic grinding of the teeth can lead to unpleasant symptoms such as headaches and pain, and in particularly bad cases, can result in loss of teeth.
