Orthodontic Treatment at Guiney Dental Practice

Our Specialist Orthodontist, Ciara O’Neill (BDS MSc MOrth RCS Ed), works at our clinic on a part-time basis and is available for consultations on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Ciara trained as an Orthodontist in Chicago, USA and Edinburgh, Scotland. She has been in the specialist practice of orthodontics since 1994 and she brings a wealth of experience and a wide range of orthodontic treatment choices to our practice from early intervention treatment for young children to fixed appliances and Invisalign. She welcomes patients of all ages.

Ciara has a particular interest in customising the right type of treatment to your requirements and needs. She is very aware of the importance of achieving a pleasant, attractive smile while maintaining the health of the teeth and gums in the long-term.

Orthodontics for children:

We generally recommend that a child should see an orthodontist at approximately 8 yrs old. If there are likely to be any problems an orthodontist can often spot the problem at this age and give advice about sorting it out early, if possible.

Orthodontics for adults

Braces can help improve your smile at any age, and there are many different ways to carry out treatment – removable braces or fixed braces, stainless steel or clear brackets, clear plastic aligners, short treatments or longer, more complex treatments. We provide a customised treatment plan with the best options for you.

For some people, orthodontics can be a useful addition to a comprehensive dental treatment plan, assisting in the preparation for crowns, veneers, bridges and implants.

Invisible or Cosmetic Braces

If you want to experience straighter teeth, but don’t want to wear metal braces, we have the answer!

Invisible, or cosmetic braces, consist of a series of thin, clear plastic ‘gumshields’, which fit over your existing teeth and straighten them gently over a period of time. They’re comfortable to wear and really effective for minor tooth movements. We also fit tooth coloured attachments (brackets), which allow you to have fixed braces for more extensive treatments, without the unsightly metal appearance.
